Whisper Mournfully To Nestlings

“Nestlings, what have you done?”
Whispered the wild wind.
“We don’t know what
you’re talking about
we’ve only just begun.

“To shake the branches,
loosen our nest,
peck and blemish all the fruit,
and at this tree’s base, no heed we’ll take,
and damage fast the root.”

“Please stop, before it’s worse!”
Mustered the gusty wind.
But the nestlings fluttered on,
continuing their fun:
The branches shook,
the nest dislodged,
and the nestlings
were quite done.

And all the wild wind could do was whisper:
“Nestlings, what have you done?”
